Description

As the sun sets and the temperature drops the clouds start moving down the slopes of Mauna Kea. The summit of the giant vulcano thus becomes visible from below. Looking closely you can make out a few of the observatory domes up there. And around the peak you can make out side-peaks/cinder cones from pre-historic eruptions that took place 100,000s of years ago. Today the giant is extinct and silent. It is now a perfect site for astronomers to gaze into the depths of the universe in their quest to unravel some of the mysteries out there...

Mauna Kea is one of the most stunning sights in the world. You didn't need a zoom at all to show how incredible. I drove the saddle road last year, and when you get to the top, the world changes profoundly.
