Description

Captured 10/18/09, at the beautiful Orchid Show held in the beautiful Huntington Botanical Center and Conservatory in beautiful San Marino, California. Be sure and view full size. Indoor tripod-mounted photo using no flash. Just one of 154 orchid pics I had to agonizingly choose from. Decisions, decisions. And that doesn't even include the beautiful bunch I have from the beautiful Quail Botanic Gardens in beautiful Encinitas, California. Ciao, thankx for the peek, and for any and all complimentary comments and favs.

just one of 154 orchids...lol! Well this is beautiful. The orchids themselves are caught with real mix between creamy whites and those green shadows and those beautiful purple centers. (I don't know if those are stamens or petals, I'm not very knowledgeable about the biology of flowers.) And the light both on & streaming through the orchids is subtle yet luminous. But you also caught them in a "dip"---ie, making their way down & then up again & off the frame (nice motion; painters do that to give music to their still lifes). And the greens in the background are perfect foil to the flowers, because that green is saturated & intense, unlike the pastel greens of the flowers. A beautiful capture, Harry, and fitting for 1500: Considering you're doing one image a day, 1500 is huge. (By comparison: I haven't reached 300 yet.) For the image, which is opulent and beautiful, and for the gallery---and you know what I think of your gallery & your dedication---a big congratulations. You're out there doing just about anything you can to get the 'shot', while many of us shy away from shots that are hard to get; and you never, never stop seeking & doing & twisting yourself & even imposing yourself on people who may not want photographers anywhere near. It's said that when the art takes over, the artist forgets his/her self. At least this shot didn't involve twisting yourself into a pretzel or lying on the sidewalk to capture it. (I always wonder what neighbors think when they see you there, flat on the sidewalk, looking up. I tried that on the shore of Lake Michigan, and a runner came by and said "here, give me your hand: Are you injured?") Beautiful image, and congratulations on another milestone!
