Description
This weekend during my volunteer work we went out walking since it was a nice day. There were some new patients in the group. I walked with and elderly gentlemen in a wheelchair. During our walk we talk about a lot of things, like the busy traffic going to the parc, but also about the birds and trees in the parc. Only after about 10-15 minutes I found out he was blind. Then we talked about that and he said close your eyes. He waited, and waited some more then said what do you hear. Don’t try to look but listen and smell. Feel the sun on your skin. After a while we had to go back but I will not forget the look joy on his face when hearing the birds or the rittle of the tree leaves.
In the end he said “in the dark we all see the same” eyes are not the only thing we have.
Was a great day again.

Sweet and compelling work. A message that we should all take to heart - there is more than one way to see the world and each person will bring their own unique perspective to the table. But more than that, each of us can learn from the other and thereby expand our own world view. We seem to be in times where that is being forgotten, where each group is hardening in their attitude that theirs is the correct, and only, way to see the world. And we are all poorer for it.

Stephan what a remarkable and touching story, and also such inspiration coming from the gentleman you spoke with. Often things like that stay with you forever, such as years ago when I used to take some of my little dogs with me to visit the care home that my Nanna was in. All the elderly ladies loved to see the dogs, but one sat quietly in the corner looking so sad, she could not see or hear! I touched her gently on her shoulder and gradually placed one of my little dogs on her knee, I will never forget the joy radiating from that ladies very soul as long as I live.
