Description
The Nene Valley Railway is a preserved steam railway that runs to the west of Peterborough UK. This weekend they've had a 1940's event with lots of re-enacters all dressed as soldiers, civilians or as evacuees heading off by train for the safety of the countryside.
The loco in this photo is an LMS Fowler 4F Class 0-6-0 number 44422 (for all you train spotters out there)
The 4F adopted left-hand drive and was originally designed by Henry Fowler, who from 1925 became CME of the London Midland and Scottish Railway.
Midland Railway locomotives were notorious for their short axle-box bearings, which were prone to overheating. Why this poor design feature was perpetuated is a complete mystery but, unfortunately, the LMS 4F inherited it!
