Brad Pitt and I share the exact same birthday (month, day, year) outside of that, our stories diverge considerably. Mr. Pitt went on to become an internationally famous superstar, while I have led the much more interesting life of the starving artist. I come from a long line of storytellers (whose gift for gab stretches back through the mists of time to our native Ireland) and professional malcontents who were seemingly born to create something in the arts, be it music, writing, sculpture, painting, or photography. I started writing at age 12 with a screenplay with my cousin Ryan about a planet where everyone looked like Elton John entitled "Don't I Know You?" More screenplays followed, several of which received epic Super-8 production with budgets that sometimes ran up to $10. A few even had sound!  More writing followed: songs, poems, short stories, numerous unfinished novels, etc.. Somewhere in there was an attempt at being a rock star...
Still living at home, at age 22, my father dropped an elderly Nikromatt 35-mm film camera into my lap, in the hopes that I would "make a go of it" as a photojournalist. That didn't happen, but I did develop an abiding love of photography that along with writing and archival work have been among the chief passions of my life. When it comes to my photography, I try to be as creative as possible while at the same time striving for a documentary/archival quality. The only set rules I adhere to, when it comes to making pictures are: 1.) Try not to make the picture blurry, and 2.) Don't drop the camera.

Cool image. I know nothing of Corey's situation but I'm glad that it is good news regardless.

Taken while gazing up at a streetlamp (lying on the ground???) Great POV, and whole new way of seeing this commonplace sight. Great work, Corey!

Brilliant news! This pic makes me feel as though I'm lying on the boom of a ship like Nelsons, looking at something burning!

Great news that Corey is on the mend. You’re a wonderful friend for being a "proxy poster". Thank you for that. I hope Corey was lying on the ground and shooting straight up, with just enough light, to show some of the wires going by. I get grief from people when I am stretched out on the ground taking a dozen shots of nothing important. Dana

Hey Corey---this is YOUR shot for sure, even if Chip can't remember where, when how or why!! (We'll let him slide for a while!!) Glad to see you here, even if you aren't!!

Cool POV, redness and lighting in this one, and glad that Corey is feeling better.

After watching far too many episodes of Absolutely Fabulous I'm quite surprised I didn't show up at the hospital when you checked in, declaring: "Oi...what about me, I'm sick, too," just to get the bed in recovery next to yours. Imagine the hazy chats we could have had! Anyway, I'm glad you let me post this shot. You've got some doozies just waiting to be posted, but I have to say that I pulled Proxy-post rank and bumped this one to the top of the list. It's a doozie of a whopper-good shot. I love the POV and that weathered wooden pole supporting an alley light. I love your Tangerine Series to begin with and so it's really great that I had the chance to get into your post-space for a moment and put this up...it's kind of my own Chip-esque way of saying: "You rock." Well, I've told you that in person, and now that I'm commenting on this, I'm glad that you put this on your "To Post" list. I love the sense of vertigo you give me when I see this...that POV is just intensely perfect. You have this looking-up-from-weird-low-angles thing down to a tee, even when your low angles aren't that weird...you just have this way with seeing stuff that you need to keep getting out there. Oh, and your dad mentioned photos I've likely not seen. I'm looking forward to see if you post any of those. This is a winner! Great stuff and I'm looking forward to sitting across from you at The Perfect Cup while you work out the specifics of what you're gonna say. Ah, we'll be back at The Perfect Cup soon enough...guzzling coffee or tea, and doing what we do best, which is just sitting around, chilling out, and doing that weird non-verbal speech thing we always do. Yeah, you're gonna be well into your recovery by the time you read this, and--HA!--I kept my big mouth shut for once and didn't tell you that I was commenting on this post!

When I scroll up and down, the perspective changes, and it's just like being RIGHT THERE! Coming back down, I'm surprised to see words below my eye level rather than more wood stretching down into the darkness near my feet. This really does rock, and it's a wonderful addition to your Tangerine series. LOVE the color and texture of the pole. Excellent work! (Thanks to Chip for posting it!)

I love your tangerine series and this is very cool! I like the blaze of white, encircled by yellow and orange and the repeat of these colors going down the pole. The smoother yellow with flashes of white, becomes more textured, the yellow giving way to orange. Excellent textures, light, and POV. Wonderful shot! I'm glad you are doing well and wish you a quick recovery. Thanks for having a "To Post" list and thanks to Chip for posting it.

I see spots :P hehe. It was almost like looking into the sun. Cool pov :)

I don't know how I managed to let your gallery slip away from me, but this is a prime example of why it should never have happened. The color and the POV, that wonderful contrast of the light, it's incredibly great stuff. Hope you're still on the road to a complete recovery.

Really nice shot Corey -

I know I'm a month & a half late, but I'm just back this week which doesn't mean I didn't see & read everything of yours since your surgery or exult in all of it. (And exult in the fact that you've been making your way back to health. I'm so happy for that, even though I know you've been knocked out by all this.) This is such a Corey shot, and I don't even know why. Well ok, maybe I do. You are such a natural, it's like whatever you capture is just how it was supposed to be seen, and you present it as organic as it could be. Even a shot like this---which every beginner is dying to do ("oooh, a cool angle! check this out!)---is, in your hands, the most natural shot in the world. (Those people I just described? I was one of those, ok? I was a total idiot when I got a camera. Well I still am, but at least I'm putting out halfway decent shots now & then...) This is everything those sodium vapor lights are, in their pock marked poles and their wires atop (which your shot has nuked, lol) and above all in those big obliterating yellow lamps. And, like you do in all your photos, you found a world of beauty in them. I love it. Most important, I am soooooooo happy you're coming along, Corey, it's just so good. I'm happy even though I know it's very slow. I just hope you heal & heal, and take all the time you need---let it give you all the rest & pampering you can get. A great upload...there aren't many like you in the digital phot. world. You have a naturalness that blows me away...
