Description

I heat with wood, so every year about this time, I get my woodpile cleaned up and straightened out. I got a cord (4x4x8') of wood delivered, stacked it, and cut the few pieces too long for my stove. I'll cover it soon to keep it dry during the wet winter months. By the time I actually throw a chunk of wood on the fire, I figure it's heated me up several times already!!

I have just lit my first wood fire of this autumn tonight! Glad you reminded us what a cord is, I learned that in primary but we've gone metric!

Lots of various and sundry textures in the above picture, Maz. I don't know if I can reconcile the above image and narrative with the blazing heat wave we're experiencing down here in Southern California this weekend. It's been running a cool (pun intended) 100+ degrees each day, with more on the way.

That's a lot of wood; ouch, I'm aching in sympathy just thinking about stacking it!

Yup. My son is doing the same. He doesn't order wood...he goes out and cuts his own trees and hauls them home in the spring. All summer he and his son chop it and stack it. Not everyone understands how much work it is to winter over without central heat. :-)

I'm not wild about electric baseboard heat, but it sure beats wood! That is a LOT of work.
