BobbyStahr aka Robert Purves was seduced into computers late in life(age 45) by a free Amiga 1000 that I needed to transcribe music with. When that was done one thing led to another and 18 months later due to a need for speed and Imagine porting over I jumped to a pc. Never looked back happy to say. I play no games, have no business software, just art and music. BIO I use Imagine a lot, Photoshop quite a bit, Vue6I PLE a bit also, and have played a bit with the free ver. of Cinema4D, and am recently enamored of the new TG 3 Free. I also write copious amounts of music in an awesome and inexpensive music writing software called MelodyAssistant, available at http://www.myriad-online.com The hyphen is part of the URL. Highly reccomended to anyone, musician or not. I got into art from sports at an early age when I discovered I was more into cooperation than competition...my mission statement is" Never go straight.....Go Forward...."

Gems... good idea bobby. I see that jewels seem more difficult to design than one could expect. 2 or 3 objects just for the stone ? and so much textures, is it not possible to make it simpler ? . But it's nice to see the lensflare.itx back in 2.1.7. I havn't had time to test it but it seems that the center of the lensflare should be brighter than the surrounding spikes, which is not the case here, maybe on purpose. That's the only thing I would dare to critic. Ah yes, could you submit different version of this jewel in different perpective angles and with different lights to see more of the inside of the stone itself. thanx. A complete serie of gem would be nice too, and also as a contest subject...

Very Nice- the modelling is superb. I agree with Richard, that it seems a bit complex, to do. But, you often find, that something simple, often requires a lot of effort, in Imagine. Oh- that's a point, what have you used as a Global Brushmap? Which is something which keeps coming up in the IML, the use of good environment maps, with reflective/refracting objects.

Thanx for your compliments guys,Re: the multiple objects...that is how,in "real life" opals are made into jewels...they're called tripluts...they are fused under pressure and great heat, which also makes them very breakable, hence their unlucky status(like a broken mirror,7 years bad luck, that old breaking superstition)no mystical hoodoo there i guess...s'all for geology 101 for now...lol..will post more later richard but am assembling a collection and that's a bit o modelling and rendering on my'slo-poke'300,so it'll be in a while.

Kevin...dunno...don't think i used globals...most likely a gold map applied as environment, and one of my chromes that i've collected or made on the subgroup of the silver or white gold, never figgered out what it was....all the colour in the dome is created by IOR as in a 'real' opal...don't know if you were aware of that.the dome is totally transparent.
