Description
I've always been a huge Ned Kelly fan. Not only was it a great story, but he was also a distant relative of mine!!!! My grandma used to be quite ashamed of this fact! Anyway for those who don't know him, he was the guy who had the famous shoot out with police wearing a metal bucket over his head and body armor. His legs were exposed so....you guessed it....the police shot him in the legs. I don't know how he didn't see that coming!! This Colt Carbine was his in the battle. A bullet actually hit the 'toe' of the 'butt', and removed his finger for good measure. I don't know much about guns so I couldn't say if it was a good pistol for it's day or not. I just love the look of it and the history behind it.
He was eventually captured and hanged 11th November 1880. His final words were 'Such is life'! Best viewed full sized.

Oh wow thanks Bill. I was just reading how to load it: 1. Draw the hammer back to the first detent, placing it on "half cock" and allowing the cylinder to rotate for loading; 2. Fill the chambers with powder, leaving enough room to seat a bullet or ball, and place a ball on the chamber mouth with the sprue (mark or projection left from filling the mould) facing exactly forward; 3 Rotate the chamber under the rammer and use the loading lever (if present) to seat the projectile firmly on top of the powder column and at or below the chamber mouth; The cylinder arbor serves as a bullet seater on models without loading levers. Place percussion caps on each of the nipples at the rear of the chambers; 5. Rotate the cylinder as necessary and return the hammer to down position (pull it back slightly, squeeze trigger and let hammer down carefully) engaging the safety detents; or 6. Draw the hammer back to full cock for immediate firing. A single-action revolver is thumb-cocked before firing, which rotates the cylinder and puts a loaded chamber under the hammer; the trigger then is pulled to fire. With double-action revolvers, a single long pull on the trigger cocks the hammer, rotates the cylinder and fires the arm. It's a wonder both sides didn't die of old age waiting for each other to load the guns!!!!!!

I watched the movie about him.crooks maybe intelligent but obviously they have no common sense what so ever or they would not follow the path to destruction excellent capture

Excellent capture! There's a bar in Hong Kong named for him and is run by some Aussies! at least it was there in 1978

I saw the movie and read up on him. they say he was like the james gang. I do not think so. anway there was this lady from that country and I posted a image of him a long time ago. [i look it up in my gallery] anyway the lady would not look at it. I IM her and she say it a shame for her country to have a outlaw and also to hang people too. i know I heard and read it a cause to hang from a tree.. i sent you the link later on. I going to bed soon so it be tomorrow that a fine gun there

Very cool bit of history. Quite possible he had a spare cylinder as well. I know in that era a shootout was likely done with good cover. A second revolver or spare loaded cylinder would have been a must. Such is life....fair enough
