Description

...how's that for a catchy title? Lol. ...this is the promised view of the Avro Lancaster's nose section sitting in a museum about three miles from home here in Washington. ...the big acrylic glass bomb aimer's bubble is on the left...repleat with reflections...but careful scrutiny allows you to see the bombadier's bench, bomb sight and control panel. Needless to say, he had to have the best view in the plane. ...to see the inside, click the thumbnail below. Bill:) "Rare Inside Look ~ for Rob and Neil" thumb_2115382.jpg

What a shot! WOW! I have to catch up, but I'm glad to be doing so now! Corey is into cars and stuff like that, but I'm kind of an airplane guy myself; cars are cool and all, but planes look like this! I love the colors in this shot and the reflections as well as the interior details you can sorta-kinda see. Superb! Even better, there's a spaceship reflected in that bubble! AND a photographer! Nice!

Wonderful captures! These old bombers are cool, but it amazes me that more purple-harts weren't awarded do to bumps on heads. ;)

Great Bill. I wonder which was the most dangerous turret to be in? I'm guessing the tail would be the worst...hmmm but the ball turret underneath wouldn't be too good either if fighters were attacking from below! Hmmm! Do you know where most fighter strikes occurred on these old bombers? And then there are the bursting sheels from the ground. I may have to goggle that! There is a Lancaster on display at The National War Museum in Canberra. It's the only one I have ever seen. imagebam.com

Great shot Bill.. Excellent detailing.. Notice the 'flat 'perspex' panel that doesn't allow distortion when aiming.. Blinkings: Lancs had no ball turrets.. In fact towards the end of the war some had the upper turrets removed to get even more bomb load in! German Night Fighters soon discovered the fact there was no defence under the aircraft and a system was developed called 'Nachtmusik' I believe, sorry if thats spelt wrongly guys! Basically, it was upwards firing Cannon set in the Fighters fuselage.. The fighter slid under the Bomber without being seen and...... You can imagine.. Super work Bill.. Rob

Kind of sad it's only the nose, however if it secures it's future, it's better than nothing. The up side is you can get these sort of shots, so...6 of 1, half dozen of the other!...thanks for shareing, some geat detail Bill.

Well I'll be darned. You really SAW this thing, and now I'm interested in going back to see what I can get! In all the times we've been at the FHC, I've always seen this as a large, boring wall of dull-colored metal. This is fascinating!
