Description

Zeus is said to have taken the form of a huge eagle to come down from Olympus and abduct Ganymede to be the cupbearer of the Gods. Ganymede was considered the most handsome of all young Trojan warriors and so perhaps was coveted by Zeus for duties above and beyond bearing cups. In this scene, the stunned and perplexed Ganymede has been seized by the Eagle/Zeus and is being carried to Zeus' private aerie among the heights of Olympus. Please zoom for detail!!! The making of this image was something of an adventure. It started when I bought Freja's Kanda character and had the idea he wold make a great Ganymede. Easier said than done! It is a pretty daunting challenge to try to re-create an image that has been reproduced in classical art many times for literally thousands of years. But it is fun too! I have been tinkering with this image off and on for over a week, and never got it exactly where I wanted it to be, but I guess it is OK. And so I make my humble offering to Ganymede! I hope Zeus doesn't strike me with lightening! Along the way I learned a lot more about layering in Photoshop, and more of the quirks of Uber light. Many thanks to Carl (DrCarl) and Jenny (pixeluna) for assistance and offers of assistance along the way. You guys are the greatest, and represent what makes this community so attractive and so much fun! Thanks to all of you for looking and commenting! I appreciate it. And thanks for all your comments and favs that put my last image on the art charts again this week. Sometimes I do feel like "I've Got the Magic in Me":

Excellent posing in this great scene and the lighting looks superb. I can see that this would have been hard to do but I reckon you have made a wonderful job of it.

I think you did a wonderful job. Before I understood the story I was like why is this guy so stiff looking. Now that I have read the story I understand. Apparently I've not read that part of mythology :) It's excellent. The eagle is beautiful as is the background and the expression on the boy. I think you are probably a little like me and overly critical of your work because I've not seen any of your work that is disappointing :)

I think you did well. It's hard to come up with original takes on the old myths but it is still surprising how relevant these tales are to us today after thousands of years.

Good work Marco! This is one of my favourite myths and it's great to see someone experimenting with classical subjects in a 3D form. He certainly does make a good Ganymede :-) Well done!

What a bummer to be snatched up and then used as a slave for some crazed Greek Gods amusement ! You are getting the hang of postworking, so keep up the good work, IMHO though I think Ganymede's pose looks a bit stiff to me, I wonder if the eagle had grabbed on the shoulder and arm it might have looked more natural, just a suggestion. BTW, the lighting also looks pretty kool ! ~Cheers~

Killer bg. Gany looks a little stiff. Probably torn between fighting his way loose & dropping to the canyon floor. Lol. Cool render! ")
