Description

BACK VIEW of the Stadium FUNICULAR Getting to the top of the tower is half the fun! Guests ride a one-of-a-kind funicular that ascends the exterior of the tower, so the view begins from the time you enter the vehicle until you once again arrive safely at the station. According to published statistics, during peak tourist season, the funicular - which travels 2.8 meters per second (about 6 miles per hour) - makes approximately a hundred return trips each day along 266 meters (872 feet) of rail. Remarkably, each ascension takes less than 2 minutes. The funicular has 2 levels and can carry 80 passengers at a time. Given time to load and unload, that means more than 500 people can ride each hour. Furthermore, this is the only funicular that works on a curved structure, allowing the vehicle to stay upright despite the incline. Have a Wonderful Weekend Merci - Thanks M a g i k

Fantastic construction. When I first saw the funicular, I thought it was for maintenance work. That tower must be the highest structure in Montréal, unless you've got some new sky scrapers in town. The view must be fantastic from the top. I remember climbing Mt. Royale many times when I lived on Pine Ave. in the mid 1970s, just to enjoy the view (I sure got a lot of exercise!). Thanks for the photo and the information. I now know what I'll do if I ever have the chance to visit Montréal again! :)

Engineers have been trying for years to increase the speed to 180,000 miles per second without success. I guess that it won't be ready for space travel for some years. Nice capture!
