Description

The Charaxes Jasius is a butterfly of tropical origin, only the genus Charaxes Nymphalidae living in Italy. This is a bug NYMPHALIDS that can reach 80 mm. wingspan. As mentioned, the butterfly lives in our latitudes in the Mediterranean along the coast, marked by the abundant presence of the strawberry plant. The butterfly has two generations per year. The first in May / June and the second in August / September, so that some samples can be identified until November. The female flies from leaf to leaf to lay their eggs, not more than 4-5 per plant. The egg that is placed on the upper leaf, is around 1.5 mm. and yellow. After an incubation period of about 10 days, we are witnessing a change in color of the egg before its hatched. The caterpillar that emerges is recognizable by a shell four-point over his head. It feeds on the remains of the egg first, before moving permanently near the stem of another leaf. The winter is spent in the state of caterpillars on the foliage of citrus fruit or evergreen shrubs of Arbutus. The caterpillar moves its leaves only in the evening to eat. Once finished your meal is immediately returned to its leaf along the same route. The flowering lasts about one month in summer and 5-6 months in winter. After this period, the caterpillar hangs from a branch in a vertical position and curving hook. After a day trasmorma a green pupa. After 1 month of metamorphosis, the pupa becomes transparent and open letting out the butterfly. It remains motionless for approximately 1 hour before first flight. http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arbutus_unedo Per chi non conosce il corbezzolo ecco un link per vedere di cosa si tratta For those unfamiliar with the strawberry tree here is a link to see what it is Good day and good weekend Thanks for the comments and the favourites of previous image
