A work in progress! Hi! My name is Melinda. I am happily married to the love of my life and we have a daughter who is in college. I live in Southern California and I am an amateur photographer. My husband bought me my Kodak P880 for Christmas in 2006. I looked at it and thought I'd never figure it out! I've only taken regular every day snapshots and never looked through the lens in a "creative" way. Then in March 2007 someone introduced me to Renderosity.  In May, I became brave and decided to upload my first photo... I haven't been able to put my camera down since! LOL. I still have a lot to learn, but I sure am having fun doing it. I have come a long way though. This time last year, I couldn't even put a photo on the computer! Now I have started to research DSLR cameras ... Who knows what the future brings! Update: I now have that DSLR :) Was the best Christmas (2008) gift!   I did the research and picked it out and Santa put it under the tree. It's a Canon Rebel Xsi .

I have a new DSLR, the Canon 7OD. A gift from my husband for Mother's Day. So much to explore!

when I first heard about "concrete rivers in LA,I had trouble imagining because it sounded very strange.then when I went to California before starting college, my imagination was fulfilled and they were still strange.your sky is not strange however.it is beautiful

Stellar lighting and patterns in this wild sky capture, Melinda, and guess what....I can tell this was postworked for contrast effects. I also got fotos of this same weird monsoonal phenomenon that I'm presently in the process of postworking. I'm thinking of doing a collage with all kinds of variations. BTW, we also got lightning and thunder here, but just a sprinkle. And I'm getting fed up with the humidity.

This is amazing! When I first saw the thumbnail, it reminded me of the 1970s tv miniseries of The Martian Chronicles...the one where the Martians were all bald, earless people wearing gold contact lenses and flowing white fabric that looked suspiciously Greek in origin; molded latex masks were new at the time, so "earless" people must have been...well...quite alien, especially since they looked so darn elegant! Bernadette Peters and Rock Hudson were in it, along with Bernie Casey, I think. Anyway, it wasn't the best miniseries around, but it had some fantastic elements, including Martian architecture including canals. This shot reminds me of that. It's haunting and quite vivid. I love the clouds and the reflections. They dance with the shadows nicely and the contrast is quite stunning. I really like this shot quite a bit. In thinking of the The Martian Chronicles and in looking at this shot, it actually makes me think of a Ray Bradbury title for one of those Chronicles (though it might have been in The Illustrated Man:) Tall, They were, and Golden Eyed...this image evokes that and if you happened to photograph really tall, bald people in quasi-togas, it would fit so perfectly in this already great shot. It's a favorite too!
