Description
A few days ago I mentioned having a fair number of slightly large boulders down in yonder Luxulyan Valley and all over Cornwall. I may have understated the 'slightly large' description just a tad.
To show you the average size of those down the valley, here be one of the granite boulders, and what a history it could tell if it could speak! It was thrown up during the last Ice Age, and probably when it ended, some 14,000 years ago, the waters would have moved it down into the valley to where it now rests.
You might notice that fairly silly chap pretending (only don't tell him I told you it was just pretend!) - to be the only force twixt the boulder and gravity. I make no apologies for including him - though I probably should! ^=^
He's actually my best friend in the world, excepting for my kids. When next I post an image of him, he'll probably be pretending to be a teapot...don't ask! Did I mention that most of my friends are strange? Hmm. Perhaps I should have!
Anyway, despite being a little strange - or perhaps because of it - he agreed to pose under aforementioned bit of granite!
This particular lump (the granite, not the chap), has numerous flora growing on top of it including a couple of very old trees. I walk past this rock each time I visit the valley, centimetres from where it sits. Other places in the valley are not to be traversed to lightly. There has been much movement of late, and one part which butts up against one of the Leats is so undermined now, that it is ready to fall at the next heavy downpour. When it does go, many ancient trees will go with it, as will quite a few very large boulders. I'm rather surprised it hasn't been manually managed by now.
Thank you for taking the time to look. ^=^

i am in awe when i see things of this magnitude.it amazes me that they are so huge and to think ice and water or other forces moved these huge giants once upon a time in our history.would have been a site to see such a thing move, i would guess. thanks for sharing your image

Just goes to show the power and beauty of nature yet again..especially in this wonderful and amusing shot. Now, if the chap stands there any longer he may end up all moss strewn himself. Thanks for sharing
