Description

[Image edited to remove navel!] Please join me in welcoming John Carter of Mars, and Dejah Thoris, Princess of Helium, to the big screen! Among my earliest books as a young reader were the Edgar Rice Burroughs books I found in my grandfather's library. It was those books that grabbed my imagination and pulled me forevermore into science fiction and fantasy literature. With covers graced by the fantastic work of Michael Whelan depicting such amazing scenes and beautiful ladies, I was hooked. Having only begun 3D art within the last year and searching for things that I wanted to try my hand at, I happened to pull these books off the shelf and I decided to have a go at it. Much to my surprise, I discovered that Disney is going to be releasing John Carter of Mars to the big screen in 2012! Having learned this, I found some depictions of what I think the costumes may look like and tried to guide my work along that line while honoring some of the original ideas. This image was a tremendous amount of work, learning to create custom transmaps as well as custom textures in Photoshop. John Carter is actually wearing 2 MFD's! No postwork.

Wow! And I though I was the only one who had read that series. I loved those books. I didn't know there was going to be a movie too. Sweet! Outstanding render BTW. Great job! Thanks for the info and sharing your talent with us.

Nicve pic - but you made the same mistake everyone else does when they do a picture of Dejah Thoris. She has no navel. Go back and re-read the book if you don't believe me. I'll give it a 4 out of 5.

Good point on the navel! I was going to do some more pics using her - I will be sure to fix that :) I will hope to earn a 5 on the other ones!
