Description

There was once a time when Chicago’s native grasses were considered little more than weeds: clunky, graceless, wild plants not fit for flower pots, lawns, or gardens. Now, things are different: Prairie-Grass is stylish, fashionable…Mayor Daley likes it. In all honesty, I like it too. As a child I always thought that the seed tufts were the plant versions of caterpillars…I always imagined them moving along like fuzzy inchworms, leaving little grass seeds behind. On one of the many visits to the Perfect Cup with Corey, I photographed this odd little “caterpillar tuft” in a planter just outside the entryway of the Brown Line train. Afterward, Corey and I enjoyed coffee, internet-squatted as internet squatters do in coffee houses…we posted pictures you’ve already seen, and this is a marker of the beginning of that day. As always, thank you for viewing, reading, and commenting, and I hope that I will be able to catch up on commenting more, but I’ve been looking into the galleries and keeping up. Thank you, as well, for the warm wishes you’ve sent to both Corey and me; it really means a lot!

I like this too. I don't think anything like it grows here. We just have a bunch of Pampas Grass, and stuff.

This is fabulous! The composition rocks, for one thing. MOST excellent curvy-ness! Your use of repetition (or the plant's ... whatever) is wonderful. The smaller, darker version in the background is perfect. Really nicely done!

Firstly, this is a wonderful photo - sometimes it's the simple, little things that we barely notice that make the best photos and reminders of pleasant days. This is excellent! Secondly, A great big pat on the back and CONGRATS for being the AOM for October! Rock on, Chip!

How simple yet how fascinating. And a big departure from architecture, cityscape and insects. Well done:)

This looks like another of your flash captures. I like the contrast between the foliage and the stark blackness. Really nice capture.

What an excellent shot! Great detail in the spikiness of the grass, it really makes us look at it closely. Well done!

Most awesome capture. I've always liked grasses and weeds .. some of my fave flowers are weeds, grins. You deserve the AOM award! I stop by to look often, but sigh .. time and all that so comment sporadically .. but I wanted to offer you well deserved congrats! You have an awesome eye for seeing the world, and allowing us to see your world.
