Description

These orchids were captured in the Summer. They are named the Pyramidal Orchid(Anacamptis pyramidalis) probably because of their shape. They are relatively common and one of the latest grassland orchids to flower (June - August). the fragrance is fox like but insects love it.

There is (or rather was) a meadow full of these tiny wonders just off close to Luxulyan woods up until a couple of years ago. Now it's full to the brim of holiday caravans. I certainly know which view I favoured! This is beautiful. A wonderful macro of such a pretty flower. ^=^

I just had to check my Botanica and couldn't find anything at all, on these interesting looking flower, which I have never seen before... but Google told me, that they be can be found on the chalk downs of the Isle of Wight, there you go - I learned something new today !
