Description

We may have been briefly lost as we were really looking for the fire tower and stopped to study the map. lol. While I stepped outside (since I was on the phone with my aunt) I noticed the stunning light floating through the trees. The lake mirrored it and I could not resist snapping this shot. (I can't really remember what the phone conversation was about...how rude of me... lol) I am happiest when I can take a shot and not need to tweak it in photoshop, like this one. However, for kicks I did boost the saturation and contrast ever so slightly. I got back in the car and noticed a deer tick crawling up my jeans. ick! Ah well...that's camping for ya. Besides, it was a fine day. Thanks for the visit. Jodie

Stellar colors and lighting in this bucolic capture! You composed this just right with the tree trunks spaced equally apart in the image, Jodie. And, I would be ticked off too if I found a deer crawling up my jeans.

your out-of-camera shots are awesome, but the fact that you used a little saturation etc is wholly fine, as the great masters often coaxed out whole worlds from their photos in the darkroom. (You know this better than I.) This feels wholly natural, and that's the key: It's apparent that it was captured as it was seen by your eye & your instrument. Composition-wise, there's just enough foreground to give us 'root', but the real 'star' of the piece is 1) the expanse of beautifully captured water, with its clarity but also that hazy look that slightly rippled water gives (I've tried to capture that for a year, and it's been really hard); 2) the 2 'star trees' which frame the image, even though you've allowed liberal swaths of nature on both sides of the image (a loving choice); and 3) the gentle but beautiful fall-tinged background, which is the completion, what the lens seems to reach for. Even the sky has a slight change in it too---a little more blue on one side than the other...I think I said somewhere or other that this typifies your wholly natural way with the camera, and how you grab an inner presence & glow with seeming offhanded ease, when in fact it's years of journey with both the camera & life that sits at the center of these shots. A beautiful, organic & very loving picture, proving that even if it were shot in an urban park (I know it wasn't!), you've found the infinity in front of your eyes no matter where you are.
