Description
I have been fascinated by this case for years!
Considered by many to be a suspect in the Jack the Ripper case, Frederick Bailey Deeming was a psychopathic wife-murderer, bigamist, thief, and confidence trickster. The grisly discovery of his wife Emily's body buried beneath the hearthstone of their home in the Melbourne suburb of Windsor (above), the police investigation to find her murderer, and his eventual arrest and trial in the early months of 1892 were all followed with intense interest by the Australian public. Deeming's bizarre and disturbing crimes earned him the reputation of being 'the criminal of the century'.
I discovered the address of the house after reading the report (attached) given to the police by the owner of the property. Whilst on the premises, he smelled a terrible smell of rotting meat coming from beneath the hearthstone, and immediately called for the police. I looked up the address in Goggle Earth street view and was amazed to find it looking the same as how it had been at the time of the murder (attached). So I got straight in the car and took this photo!

How cool is that, in a morbid sort of way! Amazing it still stands even, yet alone looks the same! Rob
