Description

This is the third in my series of presenting 4D solids as art. I have received several inquiries as to why these topological renderings all have optical illusion characteristics. This is for those who have asked. The reason they all have optical illusion characteristics is that they are all impossible. That is to say they are all impossible in our three dimensional Euclidean space. These renderings are all four dimensional, which means that one of their directions (i.e. dimensions) is time. We are all prisoners in time. We can only see one cross-section of it and that is the present. We know that time has countless other cross-sections because we have memory. If we lived in the fourth dimension, we would see all of time (past, present, and future) all at once in the same way that in Euclidean space we can see a landscape all at once. If we lived in the fourth dimension, for example, we could see our house from the outside while we were standing in the living room. Each of the renderings in this series takes a twist through the fourth dimension. In other words, it intersects itself. This can be graphed topologically, and represented as the image you see here, but we have difficulty visualizing the twist through the fourth dimension. Created in Ultra Fractal

Marvelous work!! The complexities in this series is outstanding. I very much appreciate your explanation about the 4th dimension. It does help understand a lot, although i have to admit my brain has trouble comprehending such concepts. The idea of being able to see the outside of my house while standing in the livingroom makes me get dizzy :). I appreciate your willingness to share these ideas and concepts with the rest of us. I'm sure some folks already have a good grasp of these concepts but i'm sure i am not the only one happy to have someone that is able to explain them in a way that is understandable. The royal blue background is exquisite in this image, and use of shadows helps place this image in space.

A wonderful creation and a very complex design. Thank you for the explanation it sounds really complicated like the anti-matter thing, but maybe I will get my head around it one day.

Thank you so much for letting us see "impossible" objects! and introducing us to the fourth dimension! Beautiful 4D encounter!
