Description
This is the first of two images of the Villa where I took many shots of the park some weeks ago. Villa Contarini is a patrician villa veneta in Piazzola sul Brenta, province of Padova, northern Italy. The villa is in Baroque style and is backed by a 40 ha park with lakes and alleys. The magniloquent baroque appearance that the Villa Contarini displays today is, in all probability, the result of the seventeenth-century transformation of a villa designed by Andrea Palladio in the 1540s for Paolo Contarini and his brothers. During its halcyon says it was mostly used as a residence for ambassadors and foreign dignitaries bt the Republic of Venice. Then there was a sad period of decadence, when it was used to host Napoleon's sodiers, then it was bought by a local industrialist, who restored it in the 19th century. It suffered again during the two world wars, especially the second, when it was also used to billet German troops. It currently belongs to the Veneto regional government. It hosts events and concerts.

Okay, this, as the kids would say, is awesome! It looks like the weather is erupting out of the Villa. As if it not just dominates the landscape but controls the entire environment. It is little surprise that, in spite of misuse over the ages, the grand old place endures with an inner strength.
