Description

Not the most exciting picture but here's why I haven't been commenting for the past four days:) ...early on the morning of the fourth day, the fertile Great Plains of Nebraska welcomed me with this brightening scene to the east. ...Weeee, the Cascade and the Rocky Mountains are behind me now! And so is about 1,500 miles of Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Utah and Wyoming. ...it is all downhill from here:-) ...reached Leavenworth (Kansas) on the west bank of the Missouri River late Sunday afternoon..., 1,963 miles from home in Washington state. Not a speck of trouble enroute! ...the entire way I thought about settlers doing this same trip [but going the opposite direction] along the Oregon Trail in covered wagons during the 1840s-1860s. ...I took four days. 19th Century pioneers took 4-6 months depending upon their final destination in the west. Bill P.S. This is zoom worthy:) "Slowly He Turned..." thumb_2119048.jpg

Radio UP, window DOWN & DRIVE....... brilliant, my idea of perfect driving conditions. Might be fun in an old 'prairie schooner' ( for a day or 2 ), modern mobility has to be the better choice though.

Beautiful photo. Looks like you stopped the car to get this so nice and crisp. This reminds me of the view out the front window of the bus on my way back to Lund from Malmoe this evening - quite flat terrain. When you write about the distances involved, my thoughts also go back to those early settlers in their Conestoga wagons and the hardships they had to endure. Many didn't make it. Driving long hours on a straight, flat road like this must be quite boring and tiring (risk of falling asleep). BUt it sure beats narrow winding mountain roads where one doesn't know what's coming around the bend. Have a good continued trip! :)

Thanks for the view and the feel, Bill. I just love the clouds - a clear blue sky would not add to it at all! Clive

Looks like some of the roads I was on last week, makes me wish I was still traveling, I have the same thought about the pioneers when I'm taveling and I feel bad about being tired at the end of the day and looking forward to the motel room they had the ground and a bed roll. excellent capture!

This does look great in zoom and what a huge road trip you are on, now you have to go all the way back again. I hope you have more trouble free motoring. I love the lighting in this capture.
