Description

As I’ve said before, I have a long history with the intersection of Adams and Wabash; at one time I took the “Lake/Dan Ryan” el from the far South Side to the “near” South Side. At the time, I was a wee lad—well, not that wee. I was a student at Columbia College in Chicago. Adams and Wabash marked my days. I was determined to become a famous writer. That’s still happening and I’m closer to that point than I was when I was little more than a teenager. Adams and Wabash is still a significant intersection to me. When I visit Corey, I board the Ravenswood/Brown Line El at Adams and Wabash. The street looks the same. The businesses are different. The cars beneath the el tracks are newer, but the street is the same; the el tracks are the same. Upon my return from work today, I made my northward journey to Albany Park; to help Corey through today’s more taxing elements of his recovery. This is how Adams and Wabash looked as Brown, Purple, Orange, Green, and Pink Line trains made their northward and southward transits. As I take my camera with me everywhere, it isn’t surprising that I’d capture Adams and Wabash as I made my journey to Corey’s after a day of work. As always, thank you for viewing, reading, and commenting. I hope you're all having a great week!

I love to read your neratives, and often wondered if you were a writer you've answered my question, I'm not surprised. Excellent capture!

Chip, you see more than many people do, so it is a joy reading what you now have seen and what you think about too. SO I agree with Digitaleagle in that. I do like the shot with this nerative too. I like how the street is reflecting on the metal constructions abowe.

I wish I had recorded all the changes in my district! We have no EL, but many intersections are significant for me too. You always make everything SO interesting!!

I'm thoroughly impressed that you can still SEE this, even after years of it being part of your daily landscape. I find that places in my environment, the things I see every day, become so commonplace and mundane that I don't notice them at all, let alone see them as art worthy. This is a fabulous shot, made even better by the fact that you're still able to see it this way!

Love the detail and composition here. You certainly have a talent for making the mundane urban things we (don't) see every day into works of art! Most excellent - both the photography and the writing.

Super detail and pov--seeing the everyday world so differently isn't easy. It all becomes just a blur.

I like the undersides of things. Especially when the sun shines through and there are lines and crisscrossing and rivets. Superb postwork that brings out strong contrasts, and accentuates the lines and even dots. I love the dots on the uprights to the left of the picture, the colors and lines in the top left corner, and the white that blazes out, yet sends the background into the background. The brightly lit side, with its lines like the teeth of a comb, and expansive light, is fascinating next to the darker side of wonderful colors and depth. This is excellent! I love the postwork, light and lines!

I love the patterns that these old elevated subway supports have. Every different POV brings out new and different looks. Super shot Chip. Dana

I suspect a little digital tweaking here. The lines are scintillatingly stark and striking, as is the limited colour palette. Very effective capture of a constant in your life. Excellent!
