Description

Thank you for taking a moment to take a close up peek! As you may have noticed I have recently been exploring new thematics and presentation styles. A more moody gothic/fantasy fusion that started with Midnight Bleu and on with Highlander. As I said in Midnight Bleu I am finally starting to get to where I have been wanting to go for the past few years. Thanks to so many good friends at this site for all your support on my journey; your words and your works mean a lot to me. Often I feel like this warrior. Standing vigilant, a bit scared, staring out into the unknown inky darkness. Wishing that the light that shines behind me, the light of past knowledge, would more fully illuminate where I am about to go. Almost gave up on this image, went through multiple versions - nothing felt right. And though I felt like trashing it I just could not let go either. So I kept working at it and it wound up being really different than what I thought it was gonna be. And I quite like it. Something that seemed like it would never live actually wound up speaking to my heart. And there is a lesson here in that. Sometimes we try to force our way in this world doing what has always worked before, or seemed to work before. But you know, if you just let go of those expectations about the way you think things should be or should be done... The real answer will be right there, right in front of you. So close you couldn't see it for looking. So, be vigilant - and don't be too scared to step into the dark. This again is for Terry, because he knows. And because he has given a lot of backstage help lately. Special thanks also to Kaleya for creating Mereth. She is a perfect actress for in my current play on life. She's gonna have a lot of work to do in my runtime! Blessed Be Previous

I love the expression on her wary face and once again your bold rich ochres and browns make this a lovely image... the tilted perspective works very nicely as well friend my only critical comment is that an axe of that dimension would need a slightly heavier built character to hold it so comfortably on her shoulder...... perhaps just a few nights at the Zumba class to tone her up a little to warriorfy her a little. I see this often with the girl's looking wonderfully feminine holding what would be very heavy weapons... I know I can hear you all saying....you pedantic sh#t...but I can't help it..... thanks for sharing this with us mate Carl

Absolutely beautiful work, Roxy! And a lovely message as well. I love these new tones and colours you've been working with of late. The lighting here is just as lovely. Her pose and expression, too, are perfectly suited to the theme of your scene. I am so very glad you didn't give up on this one.

Brilliant, Roxy, just brilliant - both the image and the words. How many times have we all wrestled with an image or an idea with preconcieved notions about what it should be, or what it should look like? How much easier it would be if we'd just learn to let it flow.... Fantastic work!

We must be willing to let go of the life we have planned, so as to have the life that is waiting for us.   -Joseph Campbell These words are significant to me: "Often I feel like this warrior.  Standing vigilant, a bit scared, staring out into the unknown inky darkness.  Wishing that the light that shines behind me, the light of past knowledge, would more fully illuminate where I am about to go." It's the authentic voice of an artist that we respond to when our emotions become entangled with a creative work.  We ask: 'Show us something that you really care about ... show us this in a moment of inspired courage!  Make us turn our attention to our own best dreams and believe, even for a moment, that they are still worth fighting for.' Our heart's don't care much about ambient occlusion, render times, gamma correction or the size of your axe.  Our hearts speak in a language of desire and joy.  When we connect with others who speak this language our hearts are lifted up.  Our spirits thrive on the recognition that our own visions and yearnings matter after all.  True and authentic artistic expression provides such recognition. "So, be vigilant - and don't be too scared to step into the dark." Here is the beautiful meaning woven into this lushly warm interior vision. Oh yeah! .. & Don't be afraid of them shadows.  ;-) With deepest warmth, Terry

I stand in awe at this beautiful work of art. One of the most satisfying things in life is to see miners hoisted to safety. Another is to see artist grow. And no one had grown so much in the last year as Roxanne.

Great render and excellent and a interesting composition. There is a fine balance and light/shadowing in the scene and the clothes and background fit very well into the characters posing! Excellent art work! :o)

I like this phase of your journey. Artistic considerations notwithstanding,I agree with Dr. Carl's comment,tho... that blade angle, flattering though it is for the weapon,is less than natural.

Roxie, it is so nice you didn't give up on this image as it is beautiful and really does a great job of representing your inner struggle to reach this point.

I think this is your best image to date, Roxy. It has been wonderful to watch you progress as an artist here at Rendo, from struggling with the technical aspects in your early days, to moving past technical mastery and into true art. This piece is not only brilliant from a technical point of view, but it goes beyond that to speak to the viewer at an emotional level, and that is the mark of true Art. As for DrCarl's comments, I think they only prove your comments about preconceptions. He is technically right, but a "correct" depiction for the axe would not do the picture any favors. Your message, amplified by Terry, really makes a valuable point. It is something we should all take to heart. I am so glad you did not abandon this piece. We are all the richer for your having completed and shared it (and your thoughts) with us. Thank you, and keep 'em coming!
