Description

Hi Everybody Hope you are all doing fine. I had a hectic day yesterday and couldn't even post. I am still on the cats though. This cheetah is tamed and lives at Harnas Wildlife Sanctuary in Namibia. Amazingly, he purr just like a little kitten when you stroke him. Hope you all have a wonderful day and thanks so much for all your previous comments. Colene

Such a majestically elegant spirit!  It is no wonder at all how the Egyptians came to deify them .. as well as hack their make-up techniques. He has the same blazing eyes as your sister's companion. There are presently seven of his cousins sharing this roof with me. (Six, actually, one is AWOL at moment)  I am often charmed by how many traits and nuances are shared among the domestic and wild felines.  I'd luv' to hear this fella purr. I did a second take when I first read your notes.  For a sec' I thought: "Jeez!.. Hamas is recruiting cheetahs now?"  ;-) This is a beautiful portrait. With warm regard, Terry

I have been able to stroke two of these cats - one in Oudtshoorn and another here near Stellenbosch. The amazing thing other than the purr is the texture difference between the black spots and the golden yellow/tan hide. The black is soft like a cats fur, whilst the rest of the coat is rough and coarse. Well done on the selective desaturation! Clive

My wife and I so love cheetahs! This is an adorable photo. Back before the near-ELE (elimination level event) bottleneck, when Humanity was reduced worldwide to less that 100 000, cheetahs were thought to be (semi) domesticated by Man. (Or was it the other way around?) I think there is a very special bond between these cats and humans. When you see them fed, they strike out with their forepaws and forelegs, hitting the ground. This claims the food as theirs. Here's where it gets interesting: a Saluki will do the same moves and pose, but it means "Let's Play!"
