Description

"Do you have anything close to Halloween--seems almost all cultures celebrate death in some way..." was asked yesterday. I think that would be Easter. The Dutch do have some "Gothic parties" in spring and summer now a days.. but traditional "Death-celebrations" are not present (besides Easter) We celebrate Sinterklaas from the mid of november till 6 december (the day Saint Nicolas died centuries ago) and after that Christmas, which was until 30 years ago purely about the birth of Christ and we had a Christmas tree (a tradition from Pre-Christianic Europe. the tree with lights.. like the Light celebrations in Scandinavia).. In the 1960's I think nobody knew about a father Christmas (who is, as santaclaus just derived from Sinterklaas) Since the age of TV and movies Santa did slowly move into our (part of the) world.. but still he is not as popular as Sinterklaas. December is the party month.. with 31 december as the greatest party of the year.. can't believe how close that is.

Stunning render.... 31st October, in the Wiccan calender is one of the eight Sabbats, Samhain as it is known. It is a clebration really ,a feast of the ancestors, or the day of the dead...usually it was associted with the first frosts and marks the start towards Winter. Also the time when the veil between the living and the dead is at it's thinnest. A time to remember recently departed and then back through to our ancestors..some even used it to name babies as well....but today it is more Halloween, you can blame Hollywood and stuff for that one !!! Sorry, just a bit of info....LOL

A rather sober picture, this time.

Perhaps a sober picture, but I'm seeing that Gwen's team is a victor here, the priest is welcoming and blessing the rest of the team as they arrive from their positions around the perimeter. The town is safe, the orcs and trolls defeated once more. So though somewhat somber, aren't all wars and their after effects somber, there is an undercurrent of joy. Safe for another season. Beautifully rendered ..
