Description

The word 'Legend' is tossed around far too much sometimes. Then, when a genuine 'miracle' appears...it just lends so much more mystique to that person or creature. Secretariat was just such a miracle and a bona fied legend. He ran only two years as a two and three year old before retring after winning the most prestigious, and most gruling, runs in horse racing - the distinguished Triple Crown. Winning at the Derby, Preekness and the rigerous Belmont Stakes. His time in each has never been rivaled or matched since. And being one of the few to claim the honor of racing immortality by winning them, all, in spectacular fashion. I never had the chance to see this magnificent stallion run, but always felt a keen kinship with him having been born in the same year. The year he won the Belmont, I was only three years old. But I have had the chance to see some of his children and grand children run. One grand child of his even ran (in a 'for fun' race) against my most beloved Wolf (Cylone's Fury). Truly a once in a lifetime event...particularly against a horse that could never run in the Crown races (Jockey Club is funny about letting Anglo-Arabs run in their races, go fig). In the grand scheme of things, Secretariat, certainly, earned his right to be placed among the jewels of the Crown of Kings that graced the tracks. His legacy will linger a long while. Truly, he was, one of a kind. And, as was proven at the time of his death, he was a horse with the heart of a champion. ~~~~ Just a 'quickie' image inspired by the Disney movie "Secretariat". I've seen this wonderful movie twice, and for a horse lover like me, that certainly won't be enough. Absolutely fantastic render, my love. Definately evokes scenes from the movie. I LOVE how you got "Big Red's" coloring and markings just right. The movie was fantastic (especially seeing it with you.) While I'm not much of a sports guy and most of what I know about horses I learn from you, Secretariat is one I was keenly aware of even before seeing the movie. He truly was a super horse in every sense.
