I dedicate this image to Monica to say a belated Happy Birthday! It's been raining since yesterday and this shot seems taken months ago, and not simply a handful of days ago. Anyway, this is the lake of the park at Villa Contarini, where you can see ducks, herons and cormorans fishing trout. In the villa's halcyon days, when the ambassador from the Austrian Empire or the French plenipotentiary came to meet the Venetian powerful aristocracy, wonderful parties were organized to make the guests happy. They even used to stage sham naval battles, such as the Battle of Lepanto, against the common Turkish enemy (when they didn't trade with him)on the lake with boats and small ships, and the Venetian boatmen and sailors as extras.
