Description

Hello everyone and thanks for looking... I've had a copy of Carrara for a while now, but never really devoted any time to learning how it worked. I know a lot of you out there swear by it, and think that it's render engine is far superior to Poser's. Well, to me, a long time Poser user, the light controls are pretty confusing, and if any of you out there have any tips, or know of any good tutorials on the subject, I could really use your help. Thanks, Tom Seaview123 Credits: Urban Future 3 by Stonemason

If you have Carrara 7 then Mark Bremmer has a comprehensive set of tutorials (http://www.markbremmer.com/3Bpages/carrara7Pro.html). First several tutorials are free. There's a section for free tutorials that he calls "Carrara Dark Arts" also. I've learned Carrara over the years with trial and error and have gotten used to using it. It's not the easiest program, but I've grown accustomed to it.

This isn't a bad start at all! If you want to get serious about Carrara, I would suggest springing for Phil Wilke's excellent tutorial DVD, available at infiniteskills.com. Aiming lights in Carrara can be daunting, but I have a good trick for you: Place and aim a camera at what you want to light up, then drag a light on top of the camera. Voila! The light automatically aligns with the camera and you know EXACTLY where that light is pointing. Turn off "show in 3d view" for that light, then look through the "light camera" to make any adjustments! Drop me a line if you have any specific lighting questions...

Great posing and I found Carrera hard to texture, though nice to model in! Good luck with it!

Pretty cool. I don't have Carrara as I use Vue, whenever I do, that is. Still, this looks pretty good.

LOL... You want some answers on a new program? LOL... I can't even answer questions on poser - lol ... I have been planning on taking time to learn, I will soon. I've got a couple programs that I've never looked at too, so I'm happy you're going after your new program... and now, I understand your title a lot more - lol

I don't know what you were trying to achieve here in terms of light and texture but you sure got a great painterly affect in this image. Like the female character in this one... she has a very 70s look.
