I dont know if American funghi is dramatically different to British ones but it looks like Scleroderma Citrinum (Common Earthball) that we have here. If it is then dont eat this - poisonous! Great capture Jim!

Used to love popping the Puff Ball fungi where I lived as a young girl..all the powder (spores) would go everywhere..grew up on an island so any bit of fun we could find was a bonus...can only go swimming in the sea for so long before you get bored with that.. Very clear close up...beautiful capture..

A great find and capture. I had one of these last year and it grew huge but I couldn't get a good capture as it was in a dark place.
