Description
This was captured on my visit to Exmoor Last week.
Now I know that the Ladies among you will think it disgusting to show this but I think that this death was possibly caused by 'The Legendery Beast of Exmoor!!
There are supposedly large puma like cats roaming the moors and West Country of the UK, although absolute proof has never been found. If you look closely you will see blood marks around the neck, the eye has been pecked out by crows (which flew off on my approach) and the right hind leg has been eaten.

Unsolved mysteries... It could be dangerous. Nice shot. Aloha

Jeff there is a panther on the moors, probably more than one. I've seen one and it was no pussy cat, dog or any other domestic animal. It WAS a panther. On Bodmin moor there are also big cats roaming, and it shouldn't come as such a surprise when one considers that not so many years ago, small 'zoos' down here were ordered to close their doors and sell their animals. Those stupid enough to cage up these cats in tiny areas were also stupid enough to release them on the moors. Ideal place really, considering the size and the cover these moors afford. These cats are bright! They know how to avoid us whilst surviving very well. There are also well hidden mines throughout the moors for these cats to inhabit. This isn't the first dead sheep - or pony - I've seen, and all carry the same wounds. It screams Panther, and it also screams a young Panther being taught to hunt. There is no other animal that kills through suffocation. When I saw the one on Bodmin moor, Mitzi was with me. She was the most placid dog you'd ever meet, never barking at any other animal, but she went crazy when we saw the Panther. I've never seen her so fearful, she was almost hysterical in behaviour. She knew, just as I did, we had encountered a big cat! So there you go. And just for the record, the image is of reality. Not disgusting at all. ^=^ ^=^

the mystery remains just that.

With someone with such a keen interest in the paranormal your mention of the Beast of Exmoor certainly captured my attention. Certainly this was no smaller or more common preadator that took down this creature. And, personally, I don't find it tasteless or disgusting at all....it is a valid reminder that there is a food chain and there's always something higher up preying on the lesser. A pointed image, if anything, of just how brief and fragile life truly is.

Yes, what other could it be, than from such a large cat. I cant imagine something else.

The plot thickens! Just as an aside, I always comment if I view a photo. Just because I think that if you are good enough to show me your picture, I should take the time to comment....but that's just me!

As Carpathia says..it has to be. I don't find this disgusting at all. (unlike some of the stuff in the Poser gallery which I have only ever looked at once!)

This is just Nature in the raw. Nothing to disgust here.

Yes it is sad but it happens in nature.

Great capture! I would believe it to be a panther or cougar, a wolf or large wild dog world have ripped open the neck more and went for the inners first. Glad they all feel that way, now I won't feel bad when I put up a picture of what I found by the lake shore. ;)

Living in Africa makes you numb to images like this. I wonder why would only the right hind leg be eaten. Does it have an appetite for bones and little flesh? Lions and most predators around here start eating at the soft parts. Very interesting shot and no, I don't think it is disgusting at all. Thanks for sharing.

This looks like a classic big cat killing. It is almost identical to images I have seen of sheep killed by an American Cougar.

una gran foto periodistica excelente testimonio

we also have a legendary black panther in the north of the province, but very real bears and wolves that killed donkeys and sheep. This said, if you don't have either bears or wolves (or the hound of Baskerville), i think that feral dogs may be the perpetrators.

very sad image , but life is very hard

I seen the show on the big cats in the UK or England

Not a pretty sight but a part of life. I will do a Google about the "The Legendery Beast of Exmoor". Nice POV to show all the conditions that you mentioned. Dana

I am also not disgusted by this offering, it seems hard to believe ? ... but this recycle system seems to be working better in the end, than the one we humans use ! BB

Totally irrelevant, but when I saw this and read your words, I thought of the lyrics, "The crow on the cradle, the black and the white." But that song is about man's wars. At least here the killing was for food. I wonder why only the leg was eaten. Maybe the killer, whatever his identity, will be back. I'd rather see living animals than dead ones, (except for a few that I'd rather not see at all) but it is an excellent shot and an intriguing question.

Why would it not take the whole carcass away? At least this is nature unlike shooting a Deer, for fun!
