Thank you for stopping by. All your comments and views are greatly appreciated.
This shot of "El Hood" of a 67' Chevy Impala is a homage to the victims of Katrina. La Katrina on the hood reworks a 19th century Mexican woodcut "La Catrina" by artist Jose Gaudalupe Posada. Posada's Catrina is an upper-class woman who, although dead is pompous, arrogant and muy creida. Her Image reflects the folly of humans and our categories and heirachies.
Representing The "Catrina" but spelling it with a "K" speaks to the environmental racism that occurred in New Orleans.

Wow--what a ride!! The the C/K history is all over the place. Names and places become corrupted because people are too lazy to respect them. Well said!

Great catch and narrative; helpful and very beautiful. I have looked inside wikipedia a few minutes ago and watched the real "Catrina" of Posada; this here is a stunning copy! Posadas art remains me at the old longplay-covers of "Grateful Dead" in the late 60ies/ early 70ies...
