Description

Hi- It's been a while since I had a chance to finish any fun stuff. "The Stone Bridge" is a technique piece. I created the bridge while viewing Quadspinner's "Mighty HyperTerrains Vol 2" tutorial and decided to make a suitable terrain/environment to go with it. So one 'Hyperterrain' object and one procedural terrain. Both have the same material, which is a bunch of layers with some Quadspinner rock materials and sand. The procedural terrain has three layers of rock ecosystems added. The rocks have the same materials as the stone bridge. Lighting is Global radiosity and the cloud layer is from Dick Scherzinger's "White Magic" set. Postwork in Photoshop included some exposure adjustment, artificial specular bloom and a layer of noise to pull things together a bit. As always your comments and constructive criticism are most appreciated.

Long time no see. I'm glad to see that the creative juices are still flowing. You certainly know how to get the most out of a tutorial. The beauty and sheer desolate nature of this image is quite striking. I like how the sun shining through the rock creates a shadow that makes a full circle with arch.

We have asked time and again not to post photos in the render gallery. All kidding aside, this is so Awesome. Great to see you back and as usual thanks for the mini tutorial. PS Still stuck at Vue studio Plus, haven't committed to expanding yet.

This is like a photograph taken in some badlands memorial park around here. Just a stunning piece of work.

the indirect lighting effects are easy to spot and add a good deal of realism to the scene - great render

it sounds like you did some very complex terrain work to make this gorgeous structure. it's interesting to me that you added noise in post, since that's the primary fault i usually see in Vue renders. it also interests me that it doesn't seem to be a problem in your render. Vue is definitely an intriguing application. i like the stone and sky a lot, and love the composition, but i feel like it's missing a focal point. some bit of contrast to catch the eye and break up the arid environment might make fairly centered and balanced composition more dynamic. it's a very strong and stark image as it is, with great lighting. the stone material is very realistic.
