Description
Seasonal picture.
In memory of Anna Goldi, the last "witch" to be tortured, tried and executed in Europe in 1782.
She's been rehabilated by Switzerland Justice on August 27th 2008, 226 years after her death.

Interesting image... since the eyes are probably the most important with a spell caster... you should isolate her eyes like you did in your Martyr image. You do some really nice low light scenes.. I would do it here and add some more mystery. BTW.. nice to see an older woman depicted.. gets a bit tiring to always see top heavy 16-21 yr olds. just a thought...

That's a beautiful, strong portrait, Odile. And it's nice to have a name on the last poor woman in that horrible act. I can never understand how it could go so far, like an infected wound. It's a great tribute and reminder! I have seen recently a part of the "Who do you think you are" series with Sarah Jessica Parker. If you don't know the concept of this series, so some celebrities are searching and researching in their family trees after some particular persons, or just of curiosity. Sarah Jessica has been told that there was a woman related to her, that has been accused and judged to death for being a witch in those horrible process... But then the truth came out that this woman actually kept on living... It turned out that the whole circus with executing "witches" has luckily stopped right before this particular woman got her judge... A little sunshine story in the middle of this painful, dark and frustrating stain in the history of the human kind... Vashek

wow, what a character... the stark light and pursed lips create a real atmosphere. I am not sure about the soft glow effect and I think if you showed the pores in her skin and a few more wrinkles she may have been even more scary, but the contradiction of this still works nicely...she is a glamorous but evil woman! a great portrait Carl
