instead of leaving the picture alone, like I normally do (I try to stay away from postwork) I jacked up the contrast and saturated the heck out fo this photo to the point where it is nothing like the original!

Wow - that really kicks up the colors and gives it a whole new look....almost painterly. Excellent postwork, Mike! I'm a lot like you with my photos. I try not to do a lot of postwork on the photos - most of the time. I try to get the exposure just so - I'll often shoot the same scene dozens of times, switching from autoexposuer to manual, fiddling with f-stops, and so on. In a way, it's doing the postwork in-camera. Sometimes, though, it's fun to do something like this. It's amazing what you can come up with, and how much the image can be enhanced. You've done a great job with this one!
