Description
Here is s brief summary of some of the processes involved in UV mapping and texturing with Poser and Carrara. In order to reproduce the same bespoke shader in Carrara it is necessary to go through all the steps you went through before, either that or you save it to the browser window. I discovered this whilst building the shader for rusty, which I tried to reproduce here, first on the left unsuccessfully. No longer rusty, more copper boiler, and then in the second one I followed all the steps I did to originally construct it and came up with the desired result. Also important was to set the projection to cylindrical and to wrap the UV lines. I know, monkeys typing Shakespeare, I may not understand properly but it doesn’t stop me trying!
BTW, the set is by Stonemason. Note the sophisticated addition of a glowing disk to the eyepiece; in latter stages I would learn how to use the set-up page in Poser to add textures to the original figure. (See bottom two pics). Rusty is one of the first poser figures I have ever rigged, although even then I borrowed someone else’s Dalek skeleton! But I’m learning!
BTW again, the flash of Rusty’s exterminator gun would not produce the back flash. Rusty’s beam is basically a rod with a glow texture and an aura added, the back flash effect is produced by a spotlight that is key-framed to become visible at the moment he opens fire.

This is facinating stuff, could be a double edged sword. Inspiration for some or enough to have others running from the room.
