Description

“Who am I? What is the purpose of living? Who am I? What am I fighting for?” This is Zero. He is a cyborg, created by a group led by a young scientist, trying to create the "perfect soldier" for the military. Zero has lost his memory, his past, even his name. All he has left is a torn photograph of a girl, and the feeling of knowing her. He has forgotten that he not only knew the girl, but also was friends with the young scientist. He does not remember his friend’s jealousy, his betrayal, and the fatal blow... When Zero opened his mechanical eyes for the first time, he did not recognize his former friend. His programming now gives him solely one reason to exist. The war. Zero is made the platoon leader of a military unit of cyborg soldiers, who are forced to fight in a brutal, merciless war. After the final battle, Zero finds his unit annihilated and himself the last survivor, barely alive. But what does this “life” mean for him, anyway? The cyborg experiment has failed. The “perfect soldiers” they aimed for have failed. Only one is still moving and, according to the orders of the commanding officer, it won’t be moving for much longer now… The original character Zero was created by the Japanese singer Gackt for his Requiem & Reminiscence I and II tour projects. Although never explicitly mentioned, the war providing the setting of the storyline bears certain resemblance to WWII. This picture is my personal interpretation of Zero. I am aware it does not exactly look like him, but it is not a portrait. You can't just copy a perfect original like Gackt's anyway. This is more of a tribute, trying to capture the mood and the tragic story behind Zero’s words. “Who am I?” --------------- Thank you for looking! zoom ;)
