Description

Four Missing Planes: The Devil's Triangle, 1945 Hi Folks! Here is Number 4: “The thing’s hollow—it goes on forever—and—oh my God!—it’s full of stars!” Oops! Wrong theme. Or maybe not. Over centuries, dozens of watercraft have disappeared in a triangular area of the North Atlantic Ocean near the island of Bermuda. They might likely have remained the stuff of mere legend—until something happened that United States Navy officials still refuse to discuss. Flight 19, a squadron of TBM Avenger bombers, disappeared in the Bermuda Triangle On December 5, 1945, during a training mission. Weather conditions were calm and the crew was under the direction of an experienced pilot. Unconfirmed reports tell of the last recorded radio transmissions among the fliers, in which they sounded disoriented and frightened. What is certain is that Flight 19 never returned. In fact, the search and rescue aircraft sent to find the missing squadron also disappeared. Thirteen men were on board. Maybe the late Arthur C. Clarke was on to something when he wrote the above quote in his sci-fi classic, 2001: A Space Odyssey. Maybe that area is patrolled by extraterrestrial sentinels whose masters don’t want to reveal themselves. Or maybe it’s just a section of ocean where storms are so bad and come up so quickly that they can swallow sea and air vessels whole. Surely there is a plausible explanation for all of this. On June 2, 2009, Air France Flight AF-447 disappeared in the vicinity of the Bermuda Triangle en route to Paris, with 216 passengers and 12 crew members. Cue up the late Rod Serling’s voice and the sound track for The Twilight Zone.
