Description

There is a legend Told among those who have Gazed into the burning golden eyes of the Blue Wolf Of how this creature of mystery walks silently through the Shimmering mist of moonlight Amongst the ancient spirits of the forest Gathering wisdom forged from the fires of experience So that she can return again And teach us all she has come to know She tells those who are wise enough to listen That within each of us lives the spirit of the blue wolf A flame that burns for knowledge ... for freedom A soul that leaves the comfort of the pack To travel the world of the unknown Singing the haunting song of life's refrain Crying to be heard in the darkness Stumbling, walking, running Through obstacles and fears Learning to trust our instincts And ultimately To embrace the journey. Legend Of The Blue Wolf prose by Carol Cavalaris © Credits: Another in my 'Spirit Of The Wild' wolf series, in keeping with the spirit of the Halloween season, and paying tribute to the mysterious Blue Wolf, who some say is more than a legend. Created in Photoshop CS, using wolf photos, painting techniques, blended with a background by Cebare, a background by folkvanger, and tree brushes by mystikel. Special thanks to Ilona Krijgsman for the use of her awesome wolf photos. Happy Halloween to all. I have only seen a mixed wolf breed at a pound before. That was a moving experience. It was sad and you could feel it deep inside. My husband adores wolves and it broke his heart to see it there. So I know that if I ever saw one in the wild it would be unforgetable. Simply a moving image and poem. Well done!

well, as I go back a bit, I seem to be in a night-collection here (your 'blue' period, lol?), which of course is fitting for the season, as were the raccoons. This is luminous, Carol, partly through your highlighting which (how do I say this...hmmm...)...you take the highlights that are already there---like the wolf's highlighting around the mouth etc---and you emphasize it/or mute the darker colors around it so it will stand out more---and you create a gentle luminosity as a result. Maybe you didn't do it purposefully, maybe you did it intuitively, but I notice you do that alot. It's not blaring, just gentle...But you also give a blue light behind & around the 2 front wolves, which is just wonderful when we realize that the light is coming from the coat of the wolf behind them, as if it were the mother of the pack shedding its protective light on everyone. Somehow, that's one of your trademarks---"somehow" only because I can't quite describe what that trademark is, just that you have a way with light & protective light that makes it envelop your animals & also us. And another mystical sky; and your trees here---also bare like the racoon piece---are mostly black and very clear against the dark blue background (not an easy feat, but giving a very natural blend). And your detail on the wolves faces---esp the top one--is beautiful, as you've softened it just enough to make it painterly while also wholly photograph (another of your trademarks). Above all, the wolves look at peace, even though they're roaming the unknown, which tells us that animals carry 'home' inside them just as we can (if we choose). Your retelling of the tales of the blue wolf is beautiful. In the image, they're stopping for a moment to acknowledge us, but they'll be on their way...they're telling us to learn from them rather than just observe, and I'd gladly follow in this night. Beautiful work once more.
