Hello!! from Jean. I live in UK north of Manchester and close to the Ribble Valley. I have two sons who live in the south of England , and Geneva. I have been interested in photography for years..in the sense of capturing people and scenes, but with a digital camera have become an addict. Photography enables unique moments to be captured and one learns to use one's eyes more searchingly. As I have absolutely no talent in conventional art it is a challenge to try to produce results with all the help available with software. As a overview of my gallery will show, I am a novice! I do like to experiment..usually with no fixed idea of where i'm going1 Just persist until the image pleases me. and the creative process is fun. Members of RR have been very generous with their comments and help, which is very much appreciated. I have learned so much of seeing other artists' work apart from the real enjoyment of viewing and having contact with other members.  I like to travel which gives added inspiration.... Many many thanks to you all. JeanÂ

"Poor" Jan, so much touched by so many people. It is moving story but unfortunately I don´t know more details about him. Well seen and captured.

The only story I really know about Jan Nepomuk surrounds the statue that was apparently lent to an exhibition somewhere! According to legend, he heard the confession of a woman (the queen?) that led to a dispute with the king. As Jan Nepomuk was a monk, he was sworn to NOT reveal the contents of anyone's confession to anyone...not even the King...and well...kings, being kings don't like it when people say no. According to the tale, Jan Nepomuk was tortured in order to get the woman's confession out of him. He--being a good monk--didn't reveal a single word and so the oh-so mysterious confession died with him. Well...actually, a dog might have been present during the woman's confession and so the dog was the only one who knew it. Apparently, according to Charles Bridge legend, if one touches the small bas-relief depiction of Jan Nepomuk being thrown from the bridge, it brings good fortune (and insures that your secrets are kept) but people on the bridge have fallen into the habit of also touching the woman and the dog...I suspect it's pretty bad to touch the woman, since SHE was the one who got him killed in the first place, and the dog...well...dogs are just cute. Anyway, the legend goes that touching the falling saint ensures good things. Well, that's the version I heard, but the guy who told me (a good friend of mine with a taste for beer) related that story, after a few generous glasses of the good, fizzy, gold stuff; so the story in question might be only as accurate a beer consumption allows. Anyway, that's probably why most bronze images of Jan Nepomuk are so well polished and worn down...lots of people touching him. That seems to be the case here, and this is a wonderful photo. I know the spot where you were standing, and well...if you saw a kinda cute guy guzzling beer in Czech and maybe misleading tourists, that could have been the friend I referred to, though I seriously doubt that since he actually lives in Brno now. Anyway, after so long a ramble, I love this shot and the sense of nostalgia it inspires in me.
