This was an exercize in seeing how many types of gears I could fit together. You can see it animated at: http://www.ararat-productions.com/3d/gear_anim.html

Great modelling work ! If you want to improve something, you could eventually blur the reflection on metallic materials, and ameliorate the ground texture.

Awesome modeling. I agree with YL. Also try using a reflection map for the gears and maybe an image for the ground. Actually, I wouldn't put the gears into a wooden box. I would present it in a more technical environment. Keep up the good work.

Blurred reflection - That's a good idea. The sungear goes back to the days of the Amiga later I added the other gears. This scene was modeled and animated in 5.5 or maybe enven 4.0, before blurred reflection. You will notice that I did use blurred reflection on the foil in my "Burger Dog" image. I just didn't think about re-doing my surfaces when I re-rendered this scene. I'll keep it in mind next time. Wooden Box - An open frame geared mechanism like this reminded me of something from the late 1800's. Jules Vernish kinda. So I though hardwood and metal went together in that context. Otherwise I just draw a blank as to what kind of technical environment to put it in. Maybe if it actually had some kind of real function? Reflection Maps are a "cheat" to mimic raytracing. This was rendered with raytracing, making the use of a map unnecessary.
