Description
Joshua Tree National Park, established in 1936, is located in the Southern California Desert. The park encompasses nearly 800,000 acres of the Mojave and Colorado Deserts, conserving two separate desert ecosystems at different altitudes. The name of the park is derived from the distinctive Joshua Tree, a tall-growing variety of the yucca genus that grows prevalently within the parks boundaries. The first group of Humans known to inhabit the area were the Pinto Culture (between 8000 BC–1000 BC), followed by the Serrano, the Chemehuevi, and the Cahuilla. The park protects 501 archeological sites, 88 historic structures, 19 cultural landscapes, and houses 123,253 items in its museum collections. Some info from Wikipedia.
