This is a bit of an update. From humble beginnings my photography is steadily improving.I started out with a Kodak point and shoot camera and progressed to a Sony A-200 Digital SLR camera.Other equipment that i currently have is the following: Tamron 70-300mm lens. I commented on the forum thinking they were 'sun dogs' but now I think not, more like an overhead rainbow, perhaps from ice crystals? The sun dogs I used to see were more like a separate small sun on either side.

The is a phenomenon we do not often see, a ring created by the light refracting through ice crystals in the atmosphere. At best one sees 'sun dogs' - Google it! Thanks to LovelyPoetess as she told me what mine was! (6 Jun) Well done, Clive

This is fabulous! I love stuff like this. It looks like you might have been able to capture sundogs too, but I don't see them in this particular shot. That's okay, because you got the ring/arc perfectly. The sundogs would have been two bright spots on either side of the sun. THOSE are hard to capture, but this ring around the sun is equally hard to capture! They're so faint! This is gorgeous. Great work. I'm glad I'm finally catching up!
