Description
I found a couple of my old quickly made pencil drawings and thought I'd post them here.
This one depicts 1st Lt. Lauri "Lapra" Nissinen in his Messerschmitt Bf-109G-2 (reg.nr. MT-225 IIRC). Nissinen was born on July 31, 1918 and he was #9 ace in Finnish air forces during WW2 with 32 and 1/3 air victories.
He was killed on June 17th, 1944 when, while engaging IL-2s with his wingman 2nd Lt. Lampi, remains of 2nd Lt. Sarjamo's Bf-109 (MT-227) fell down on his plane. Both pilots were killed.
During his career Nissinen flew with Fokker D.XXI, Brewster B-239 (F2A-1) and Messerschmitt Bf-109G-2 & 6. He was awarded with VM 2 (Medal of Liberty 2nd Class), VR 4 (Cross of Liberty 4th Class) and VR 3. He received MHR 2 (Mannerheim Cross 2nd Class) on July 5, 1942 (here's more info about the awards) and became the Knight of the Mannerheim Cross #69 (the second class Mannerheim Cross was awarded to 191 persons, to four of these twice).
