Description
The planet we landed on was truly a backwater. Despite being settled for many centuries there were only small towns and a limited population. We landed at one of the biggest cities as that is where Lady Silver said she had been directed by the strange little girl that we had found as she blinked out of existence. I strapped on some firearms and hesitated. Finally I shrugged and clipped my sword to my belt.
We finally started talking with an old crone who looked at us suspiciously from under bushy white brows until Lady Silver mentioned the River Wytch. At that point the old woman cackled a laugh that sounded like a cross between a rusty hinge and the braying of some loadbeast.
"Looking to find that one, ar' yee? Oh a fine time yee'll have. Those that goes looking for her don't find her unless they been invited." She gaped at us with a near toothless mouth exposed by her lips. "And don' go figuring to fly your fancy space ship up the river ta see her. Those kinds of things don't work where her power holds. Yee'll need ta find a sail craft to takes ya there. And they ain't no one who got one o them that's likely to be accommadatin' to ya." The old woman started laughing once more as she went on her way hobbling up the street.
With nothing better to do for the moment we headed down to the docks and looked around. As the old woman had hinted there was no one willing to take us to the river. Finally we stood out on the end of a dock and I found myself leaning on the railing looking out over the water. That strange sense of blue around me happened once more as I listened to the two females and the Iskar arguing about this or that action.
Finally Sally said, "So buy a boat from one of these miserable people."
"And just what good is that going to do us?" Lady Silver asked. "We still won't have anyone able to take us to the river."
The Iskar with nothing to add to the argument going on walked over to stand leaning on the railing near me and watched the other two.
Sally shook her head and put a hand on her hip and cocked her head to one side. "I can sail it."
Lady Silver looked at her sharply and waved a hand in her direction. "You can sail one of these craft?"
"Yes. I've done it before. You buy one and I'll get us there."
The Iskar smiled her enigmatic smile and shook her head slightly. "What an eclectic bunch of talents we seem to have collected here." She looked at Lady Silver. "I think we should, Mistress."
Lady Silver scowled but then went to find someone willing to sell her a boat.
When we finally obtained one it appeared sound enough but it was small and we had to cross the bay channel to get to the river mouth and the thought of floating on that rough water was something that I found daunting. Yes, I fearlessly cross the black and deadly voids of space but I'm in MY ship when I do that.
Somehow I managed to hold onto my lunch despite the queasy feelings the rocking boat gave me. Lady Silver and the Iskar were not quite so fortunate. Sally just sat in the back working the lines to the sails and pushing the tiller with a smile on her face.
We were on our way to see the mysterious River Wytch.

I finally caught up on your last few installments; great stuff. I find this one pretty amusing - the great Lady Silver getting seasick, now that's classic. Everyone has their weaknesses. ;P Homeboy has a pretty cool-looking sword, too.
