Sometimes your art---especially your portraits---have an indescribable feeling to them. Perhaps this young girl feels badly about herself, or is thinking 'horrible' thoughts, but your portrait has a silent delight. I can't describe why, it just does. Her expression is very serious; in fact we barely see her lips---as if she were hiding her expression in a sea of bleached whites. But there's something precious about her, in your hands; you've brought out something delicate & beautiful from inside her. It's partly in the vast 'sea of white' that you've put in her face. But it's more in the flower-like shapes that swim through her eyes, and inside all the shadows in her face. (Those flower forms are even present in her lips---ever so lightly. You did that beautifully...) Further, your shading is almost graphite-work---almost a delicate stipple. The eyes are beautifully mysterious. And the blue swimming in the eyes gives the girl a feeling of dreaming, as if she were 'in the sky' when you painted this. Your surrounding hues---for her hair, her neck & the area around her---are filled with light blue washes, and grainy grays, and those delightful ovals---like CD's or earrings floating all around her. (As if she were thinking of them.) You have your typically expressive blacks along the left side of the portrait, as well as your fractal-like forms. You know, your portraits seem to emerge out of a universe of dancing forms: Even in your more serious & dark portraits (emotionally dark), you surround them with swirls & shapes that suggest that the cosmos is celebrating. So, while this young girl is immersed in a pensive place, you've surrounded her with a visual dance. I think this is beautiful.
