Description
Modeled in Maya. Vue for lighting & sky. Minor Photoshop post-render work.
I could use some help.
I want a dramatic scene that implies speed. I’m not creative enough to know what I need to do to improve what I have so far. All I know is I don’t really like it. I would appreciate any suggestions on composition, lighting, effects, etc. that would make this a more dramatic scene. Any tips on distressing the image to make it look more authentic would also be greatly appreciated.

Actually, you have a good blur going on the locomotive. I think it needs to extend up. The tops of the warehouses, the bridge, and the other vehicles need to be consistent with the train's blur need to be blurred as well.

Just make sure your motion blur in photoshop is running the right direction, As Shav says the train looks good..but the lorry and warehouses need some blur too.

I like the mayhem. Still, I'd be surprised if they would have time to use flak against aircraft that low- maybe try tracer fire. The model B25 looks great too. Another thought- would the viewer (gunner on another B25?) also be jostled about- so the entire scene might be blurred slightly? And fires on the horizon might add to the D-Day kind of scenario... If you want to try for a stained effect on the paper- try scanning the last couple of blank pages in really old books. These often have nice brown mouldy spots!

in photoshop make three layer copies (say... layer close blur, layer distant blur and layer aircraft blur), working each blur layer at a time, turn off the other blur layers, delete the areas where you don't want blur, now apply blur, harder for the close ground objects softer for the distant objects. Also slightly blur the 2nd and 3rd aircraft this will give more focus to your lead aircraft. try adding some light blur to your flak bursts. Now play around with the transparancy levels on each layer until you are happy with the result. When you are finished flatten the image. POV is important for action art, a lower position with the lead plane at top of building height would add more drama
