Description

The villages of Freddana Along the river valley Freddana many villages to be discovered On the hills overlooking the valley of the river are picturesque villages such as Freddana Orbicciano, buckles, Gombitelli, which is worth knowing and lend themselves to an easy bicycle ride out of the way at times using some old mule restored by the CAI of Lucca , and features panoramic carriages. The town is called poplars and is located on Via Provinciale Camaiore - Lucca about 2 km after the pass of the junction for Massarosa Montemagno, (located at a monument in memory of the Nazi massacre during World War II). We descend along the provincial road in the direction of Lucca for about 3 km until the junction for Orbicciano - Buckles and turns in this direction. The road climbs a steep and steady and after the junction Orbicciano to continue in a more open and wide, to the village of buckle (8 km run 451 m height above sea level). Both of these settlements are worth visiting as they have kept intact their characteristic structures of stone. Is reached, following a mule track on the steps, the top of the village and past the cemetery, continue to steep a cart and only occasionally pedaled. At the first intersection you take a left and shortly after you leave this road, advancing on a path to distinguish from red and white marks that are on the left. After a short while you reach a junction with arrow indicators (Lucese-Montemagno) (9.5 km routes) follow the direction Montemagno, descending steeply to the left, and after some ups and downs you cross a paved road. Cross it, continuing to follow the red and white marks, back again on a fairly smooth path, which in a very panoramic, coming out onto a paved road, just above the village of aa Gombitelli (runs 1 km height m.492 asl). Gombitelli is another picturesque village of the town of Camaiore, previously known for the manufacture of iron and worthy of interest as a 'linguistic area' and in a panoramic valley of Freddana. It crosses the country to the narrow streets and back on the road at a bend, it comes down to a few hundred yards to a left-hander recognizable by an open space on the right with a small chapel. At this point the red marks are visible again rising to fifty feet, to a small hill (path), and after apparently flat, leading to a crossroads. Turn right onto dirt road that goes down easy now in the woods, rather steeply and eventually became paved, some houses and get to touch Montemagno. (13.5 km route, height m.214 s.l.m.). Reached the point (characteristic centuries-old oak), take a steep road on the left, leads to the village of huts, turn right and then a house, turn left again (marble tabernacle), then you start to fall for road and keeping always on the left, you reach the town of Panicale, on the road from Monte Pitor. Turning left you will soon be back in poplars, location from where you started the journey (17 km run).
