AHHH This very much reminds me of the clouds of electrons around a group of atoms (a molecule). Electron's do not really orbit; rather, they have regions, or shells, where they might be found. These regions are generally circular or toroid and are bound in the same mathematical fashion as your fractal was. The tiny circles don't match for the electron idea, but it still reminds me of a quantum mechanical view of an atom. (5)
