Description

Joan of Arc, the Maid of Orléans, was a French peasant girl who, inspired by visions from God, rose up to lead the French armies in the Hundred Years Wars. Joan said that God told her that she should aid the Dauphin (the uncrowned heir to the throne of France, Charles VII) and he sent her to lift the siege of Orléans, hence her moniker "The Maid of Orléans." At one point Joan was captured by her enemies and tried by Church officials (enemy ones) who said her visions and the voices she heard were not from God but from the devil. She was burned at the stake on May 30, 1431. Pope Callixtus III (not an enemy of the French) had her re-tried posthumously, and on July 7, 1456 she was declared innocent. For all the centuries since, Joan of Arc has been an inspiration and model for pure courage and single-mindedness of vision in the support of people and country. This images depicts Joan in a side chapel of the cathedral receiving one of her visions as she was alone in prayer just before going into battle. The image is worth a zoom....click! I am dedicating this image to Jenny (pixeluna), an artist who as been an inspiration to me in her work, and a great encouragement to me in my efforts. Thank you, my sister! I am a day late but I hope you had a very Happy Birthday....and many more! Thanks to all of your for looking and your wonderful comments! Previously :

That's beautiful; some fine attention to detail, too... I love the stained-glass patterns on the floor - clever you! And that ray of light is wonderful -how did you manage that?

You have illustrated the bold and inspirational vision of this charismatic warrior : I like the manner in which her shield, helmet ,and sword are neatly laid on the floor below !
